African
Chamber of Commerce &
Industry is a multi-purpose, transcontinental organization which was
founded in September 1994 in the City of Los Angeles, California to
improve the socio-economic status of African-Americans, Africans, and all
people of African ancestry, irrespective of geographic location.
The
founder conceived the organization in 1988; however, its
institutionalization became a reality in December 2003.
The organization’s Articles of Incorporation as a public benefit
corporation were approved by the Secretary of California, the Federal and
State Income Tax exemptions under section 501 © (3) of the Internal
Revenue Code and the Revenue and Taxation Code of California,
respectively, were finally granted in December 2003.
ACCI will carry on
various domestic and international operations, with particular, immediate
emphasis in African-American, African and Caribbean communities. To effectuate its domestic and international agenda, the
organization is structured to operate like a non-governmental institution,
with several committees and departments to carry out its aims and
objectives.
The organization intends to apply to the United Nations, United
States Department of States, Arab League and the African Union for
Non-Governmental Observer (NGO) status.
With such status, the organization will be positioned to observe
and participate in the deliberations of these institutions, thus creating
the opportunity to interact with foreign governments, governmental
institutions and other international organizations.
Through these observer status privileges and international
associations, the African Chamber of Commerce
& Industry will be availed many opportunities and will derive
many benefits, including financial, business and solidarity support, as
well as other bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
